Ceramically Reinforced Coating Systems, Generation 3.0

Bonded coatings are relatively soft compared to many galvanic and vacuum-deposited layer systems. This property very advantageously supports the application of tribological systems. However, intense shear forces may cause the bonded coating to be removed from the effective gap of its friction partners and to cease functioning as intended. Product longevity may thus be limited by this removal.

The addition of low-concentration ceramic particles to second-generation lubricating systems provides a significant increase in load-bearing capacity and wear resistance. Friction properties behave virtually unaffected by the ceramic additive component. Third-generation bonded coatings represent the latest development stage of dry lubrication.

Multi-Functionalized Micro-Layer Systems

Usage of a component in real building and load situations often requires multi-functionalization of the surface.

For example, if a component or an assembly is used in the exterior of an automobile, special requirements for corrosion protection must be met. The use of different materials requires a high degree of knowledge about the behavior of the materials and surfaces in the material mix. If your component is installed in a crash-prone area of a vehicle or in an area with high ambient temperatures, further demands are placed on the surface system.

In addition to environmental stresses, components are subjected to very different and complex motion and load requirements. The coating system thus requires further properties that ensure proper functioning of the component in a loaded state. For this purpose, we offer anti-friction and nano-layer systems that enable maintenance-free dry lubrication, high-quality corrosion protection and reliable wear protection.

Functional Powder Coatings - Not Just for Electromobility

We have recently extended our many years of expertise in industrial series coating to functionalized powder coating systems. In addition to the economic benefits, there are numerous applications that require only partial coating of the components. The powder coating process offers a variety of possibilities through effective masking measures.

Newly developed high-performance powder coatings enable the functionalization of component surfaces. Especially in the “New Mobility” segments of electromobility, we have recently implemented numerous applications. Further functionalizations serve to increase corrosion protection, heat resistance and abrasion resistance, to reduce surface temperature and susceptibility to contamination or to expand the friction properties of surfaces.
