1. Coating powder types

Epoxy coating powder (EP)
In EP coating powder the epoxy component is interlaced with a hardener. EP coating powders possess very good chemical resistance and excellent mechanical values such as high elasticity or impact resistance. Epoxy powders are used for corrosion-resistant applications. They have no physiologically negative characteristics and can even be used in the food field. One disadvantage is their tendency to "go chalky" and turn yellow under external factors. The stoving temperatures are in the range between 140°C and 220°C. In addition to glossy powder films EP coating powders can also create dull, matt surfaces.

Polyester / epoxy coating powder (SP/EP)
These coating powders are also often described as hybrid powder. The mixing ratio between epoxy resin and polyester resin varies between 60/40 and 10/90. The stoving temperatures for SP/EP coating powders are between 160°C and 220°C. The resultant powder films are far more resistant to yellowing and less liable to "go chalky", and also have excellent mechanical qualities. The surface appearance can be adjusted in many different ways; not only glossy and smooth films but also matt and structured surfaces can be created. The range of colours includes the whole of the standard RAL pallet but also NCS, Sikkens, and other colours to match the customer's specification.

Polyester coating powder (SP)
Polyester coating powders have acid polyester as their binding agent, interlaced with various harden-ers. Polyester coating powders are weatherproof and do not "go chalky", so they can be used out-doors. Typical applications are coatings on aluminium for façades and window elements and on motor vehicles. They have good mechanical properties such as blow and impact resistance and good adherence, which means that such later processes as sawing, drilling, or machining are also possible.

Polyurethane coating powder PUR
The basis for this powder is a polyester containing OH-groups interlaced with an isocyanate. The dis-tinctive feature of PUR powder is its excellent flow qualities; they are also just as weather-resistant as SP powders. Temperatures of up to 170°C are needed in order to dissolve the protective layer of the hardener. The costs of PUR coating are well above those of SP coating.

Acrylate
The acrylates are extremely weather-resistant and also have very good flow qualities. They are mainly used as transparent powder coatings on motor vehicles. Their lack of compatibility with other powder types sometimes causes problems.

2. Series coating

Motorcar industry
The series coating of motorcar add-on pieces such as lateral edges, window bars or mirror supports is a great challenge to a surface refinement company. Based on many years of experience, also in the field of façade coating, Hillebrand is able to achieve the required high and steady quality for motorcar parts.
Only a process adapted to the ground, to the parts geometry and to the requirements ensures a steady high quality.
By using a Cr-VI-free chromizing, Hillebrand today has already set the course for tomorrow. But, apart from the ecological aspect of a conversion, the high standards promoted by customers will always be the focus of attention. Feedback information from current series and new projects of the automobile industry shows that this is the right way pursued keeping sight of the goal.

Architecture
Being a qualified coating company with GFBR approval, Hillebrand is your contact for powder coating in the field of architecture.
Many buildings all over the world have been constructed with parts provided with a protective surface by Hillebrand. In our Coating installations, sections up to 7000mm and metal plates (steel and aluminum) of the dimensions 7000x2000 mm can be coated.
After a multistage pretreatment (chromizing / phosphating), the objects to be coated are provided online with a powder coating.

Sporting-goods industry
The colors of the component parts of a ski are harmonized. Surface refinement of the metallic ski binding parts has been performed for some time already by means of the powder coating method. Plastic parts, however, often could only be used in black or in hues not harmonizing with the metal parts. Here, coating of these frequently insulating objects by means of coating powder using the conventional method fails. With the aid of the PPC® technology, it is now possible to apply paint to such plastics. Only by this special process, a fixed anchoring of the layer on the substrate is achieved. Shock-resistant surfaces with high scratch resistance and good weather resistance to cold and heat are the result. Thus, differences in color between the different materials have been reduced to a minimum. The possible color variety is nearly unlimited, all coating powder hues can be used.
