CPC® Casting Powder Coating - Innovative surface technology on metal castings
An example: How can a pressure-cast mirror foot be coated that has to stand up to the stringent corrosion and appearance requirements of the automobile industry?
Conventional powder coating was not possible on account of the extreme demands and because paint faults appeared on account of the large pores in the material.
It was only by using the special coating powder technique of CPC that Hillebrand was able to solve this problem. The deburred diecast parts were pre-treated chemically and then given a hybrid powder coating that completely prevented any bubbles, degassing, or any other faults on the surface. The result was a powder coating that was as smooth as a mirror, well levelled, and perfectly anchored to the pressure diecasting.
Layer thickness of more than 70µm in only one layer increase many times over the ability of the coated part to resist impacts from flying stones as well as corrosion.
CPC allows both high-gloss and also completely matt surfaces to be created in high-speed series production.
CPC (Casting Powder Coating) layers are multi-colour protective layers on metal with a high level of scratch and corrosion resistance. Valve covers and mirror feet for the motor industry are being provided with hybrid coating powders on account of their high level of corrosion protection and the good anchorage achieved between the coating powder and the metal. The good levelling of the rough surface of the casting forms a good basis for the subsequent buildup of paint for the visually demanding original vehicle paints.
Whenever the technical and visual demands are extreme, CPC is always the best solution.
