New Powder Gun System Installed

In January, we carried out a modernization of our vertical installation for the “Architecture” sector. Both our eighteen powder pistols and our automatic control have been renewed. The improved coating results impressed us after the conversion. The surface is more homogeneous and accumulations of paint on edges occur at reduced rates and more uniformly. The new controller enables error-free and reliable reproduction of coating parameters. The coating programs are created individually for each customer and component and can be automated for the entire coating process. The newly installed system is designed for rapid color change and allows for improved application efficiency through more accurate powder reject control.

We would like to thank all participating companies (and our own operating technology) for the problem-free conversion during operation.

Change over to chrome-free pretreatment

Since early 2017, we, at Hillebrand Coating, have changed the pretreatment for aluminum profiles in the business sector architecture to a chromium-free no-rinse process. This environmentally friendly pretreatment method is based on a titanium-polymer complex. Thus, we meet the requirements for the certification of the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB).

The 5 years of outdoor exposure required for compliance with BS EN 12206 and DIN EN 12206 are met and exceeded. Currently, there are weathered samples in the tenth year, and they still meet all the testing criteria. These results are confirmed not only by the chemical manufacturer of the pretreatment baths, but also by the GSB. Consequently, we were the first and only German facade coating company to receive permission to launch a chrome-free pretreatment for the UK market. We also meet the requirements of BS EN 12206.

This way, we can perfectly combine corrosion protection with our love of nature.

Bonded Coating of Panoramic Glass Sunroofs

Sunroofs are attractive and popular – they are found in many vehicle models on the list of accessories. Of course, on purchase, customers expect an attractive ambience. At the same time, this ambience should not be disturbed by unpleasant squeaking noises when operating the opening and closing mechanism.

The testing phase of a new-development sunroof revealed: Tiny sand particles on the slide tracks of the sliding roof result in clearly audible squeaking noises. The solution: The lubricating varnish TC A5000 from Hillebrand Coating.

Hillebrand Coating chose PTFE-bonded coating because of its relatively low resistance. In addition, the company selected a black color scheme similar to the one present in the KTL-coated carrier element. The lubricating varnish TC A5000 meets all requirements and today is used in a wide range of models.

Automotive Mirror Holder/Handles

How do you achieve optimum lacquer adhesion and an optically perfect surface when coating cast parts? Especially with mirror holders and handles for the automotive industry?

Hillebrand Coating has taken on this task. A conventional powder coating was not possible in this case. Because of the existence large pores in the material, lacquer defects can occur during the application. Instead, we have applied our special CPC technology (Casting Powder Coating).

This works as follows: First, we apply a chromium-free pretreatment to all aluminum, magnesium and zinc diecasts. This dissolves almost all release agents from the castings but doesn’t stain the parts. Finally, the cast parts are provided with a special hybrid powder coating. This special coating evens out all bubbles, degasing and other surface blemishes completely. The result: an ultra-smooth, well-leveled and diecast-anchored powder coating layer.

Only one layer provides a thickness of 70 .mu.m which increases the stone chip and corrosion resistance of the coated part many times over. With Hillebrand Coating’s CPC both high-gloss and dull matt surfaces can be produced in large batches.
